Wishful Wednesday: Skipper style

Hi again!

Since it’s really Wishful Wednesday and not Try-it Tuesday, I have to post something that isn’t always in a prepsters budget! And, since I just told you guys that I am a sucker for anything with seahorses, let me show you what I wish for!

This is a Skipper Bag! I found this company maybe a year ago and I absolutely love their bags! They are huge; perfect or any beach or boating occasion! For my birthday (which is Tuesday May 15th I might add) I am asking for one!

These bags come in a variety of color combinations and with all different nautical emblems you can choose from. They have whales, anchors, mermaids, starfish and many more! They also make a smaller version of the bag and even nautical pillows!

All of the Skipper products are simple, summery and super preppy! However, they are a little pricey, but as I always say, a prepster can always dream, after all it is Wishful Wednesday!

Try-it Tuesday: on Wednesday, whoops!

Hey you prepsters!

Sorry that yet again, I am a day behind! I cannot tell you how crazy things are. So, to make up for being behind schedule I’m posting two Try-it Tuesday ideas!

The first Try-it Tuesday item on the list, or perhaps I should say menu is Pecan Pie! This past Saturday for the Kentucky Derby, my mom went on a Southern cooking binge and whipped up a few Southern staples. For those of you who watch Foot Network you may know that the country singer Trisha Yearwood has a new show! My mom and sister, who are addicted to Food Network absolutely love her new show because it combines Southern hospitality with good eats! One recipe that caught my mom’s eye is Trisha’s pecan pie! I don’t know about you but I LOVE pecan pie! So, my mom decided to make it and let me tell you it was delish!!! I thought for this Try-it Tuesday I would encourage you to try Trisha Yearwood’s pecan pie recipe!
Here it is:

Ingredients
1 cup(s) (packed) Light Brown Sugar
            1/2 cup(s) Granulated Sugar
            2 large Eggs
            1/2 cup(s) Butter, melted
            1 1/2 teaspoon(s) Vanilla Extract
            2 tablespoon(s) Milk
            1 tablespoon(s) All-Purpose Flour
            1 cup(s) Chopped Pecans
1  (9-inch) Deep-Dish Pie Shell, unbaked, or homemade pastry
            1 cup(s) Pecan Halves

Directions
1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.
2. To make the filling, beat the sugars with the eggs in an electric mixer until creamy, about 5 minutes. Add the melted butter, vanilla, milk, flour, and chopped pecans. Pour the mixture into the shell. Arrange the pecan halves on top of the pie in a circular pattern.
3. Bake the pie for 55 minutes. Check for doneness by shaking the pan slightly. The pie should be firm, with only a slight jiggle in the center. It will set more as it cools.
4. Serve warm, topped with vanilla ice cream, or at room temperature with a dollop of whipped cream.

The second thing I’m going to share with you is a little craftier! Last April I went down to Chestertown, Maryland to visit my best friend who goes to Washington College. Amanda and I have been best friends since I was 7 and she was 8 when we met in dance class and our friendship grew. Now, our sisters are best friends! Our dads are even best buds, going out to bars together, bonding over fire department talk and a bunch of other “guy” stuff!! Our moms get along extremely well too; give them a bottle of wine and a comfortable couch and they are set for the night! This past semester Amanda has been studying abroad in Scotland and it’s been so hard not talking to her every day! So, I figured what better way to make it feel like she is here than to share a craft we did together.

Back to the original story, so last April I flew down to see Amanda for a fun filled girls weekend. Chestertown is absolutely adorable with little shops right on the water. We took several day trips to nearby outlets and to Annapolis to gawk over the Navy boys and to enjoy some crab cakes! Some nights we went out and some nights we had our quality girl-movie nights where we chit chatted and crafted. One craft we decided to make was paper Mache covered wine bottles. Like I said, we went out so we had a few extra wine bottles lying around! Haha!! Since we both love Lilly Pulitzer, while we were at the outlets we picked up Lilly wrapping paper, some Mod Podge, and puffy paints. Incase you don't know what Mod Podge looks like:

First, we peeled off any labels from the wine bottles and washed them. Next, we covered the bottles in a coat of Mod Podge so the wrapping paper would stick. Next, we cut strips of the wrapping paper and covered the wine bottles with them. Once the wine bottles were covered, we coated the bottles in Mod Podge to smooth the paper and add a glossy touch. Once the bottles were dry, to took the puffy paints and decorated them!

P.S.-We bought the wrapping paper in the floaters pattern because my family, really me and my dad, has this things with seahorses. Anything with seahorses I have to buy!

Now, I have mine displayed in my room so I can remember how much fun that weekend was and how lucky I am to have a best friend like Amanda!
Amanda and Me on New Years Eve 2012!

So, there are some Try-it Tuesday suggestions! Now go try them!

Motivational Monday: From Bob!

Hi again!

Sorry today’s motivational post is a little delayed things have been so insane! If you’re anything like me you need that extra boost to make it to summertime! So, I figured what better way to make us feel like our toes are already in the sand then by sharing a few words of wisdom from non other than an iconic summer voice, Bob Marley.

“Don't worry about a thing,
'Cause every little thing is gonna be alright.
Singin': "Don't worry about a thing,
'Cause every little thing is gonna be alright!"
-Bob Marley

With the summer right around the corner, and finals next week, I find myself constantly reminding myself that everything will be okay! I just have to hang in there a few more days and then summer will start and the good times can roll!

So preppies, hang in there, ‘cause every little thing is gonna be all right!

Where-to Weekend: Cinco de Margarita style!!

Hey preppies!

This weekend I was super busy! I had work, which was fun but crazy since everyone wanted to buy the Kentucky Derby scarves and apparel we were selling! After work on Saturday, I was able to quickly run home to catch the KY Derby! My Aunt lives in Kentucky and I've visited several times and there is nothing more exciting than being in KY for the Derby!
The Derby wasn't the only thing to celebrate on Saturday! Later Saturday night, in the spirit of Cino de Mayo, friends and I celebrated with margaritas and some Mexican staples! It was also a good friends birthday so that only added to the celebration! Plus, my best friend came home from school for summer break, which made the weekend even better!

Sunday I was able to spend some quality time with my sister out and about shopping and then we had a nice family dinner! Nothing like a weekend filled with friends and family! Needless to say, it was a good weekend!

What did you guys do? Any fun Cinco de Mayo or Derby celebrations?

Faux friday on Saturday!

Hey!!

Sorry to keep this short again, but like I said in the previous post, I have work tomorrow so I have to get up early, which isn’t the easiest task for me! Anyway, its faux Friday so let me show you guys something that will definitely fool even the preppiest prepster around for a fraction of the “real-deal” cost!
Tory Burch is an amazing designer, who creates fabulously comfortable shoes! Her designs are simple and timeless, and I’m not just talking about her accessories and apparel. Recently Tory Burch as designed a line of iPhone cases which cost anywhere from $40 to $65! However, yet again, during one of my intense Amazon browsing sessions I found imitation Tory Burch cases that are sure to fool any Tory aficionado!
Take a look:

This is the one I have!

I think they are pretty good! And who can beat the prices? Some start as low as $7! I bought one not too long ago and I can say that they are durable and merely foolproof! To add a little spice and a designer flare to your iPhone at an affordable price, check out these Tory cases on Amazon.com!!

Which one(s) do you like best?

Preppily yours,

Thrifty Thursday on Faux Friday!

Hi there!

First off, let me apologize for the severe delay. I started my new job today at Vineyard Vines so Thursday I was busy with school and preparing for my first day! I’m happy to inform you that my first day went really well! I absolutely love the work atmosphere in the store! Everyone there is so friendly and extremely helpful. The part I didn’t like was not being able to buy anything! I want one of everything! Although, the company does give you an allowance to buy clothes since it is required you wear the brand while at work. So, I bought a pink polo, or as Vineyard Vines refers to it, a pink knit! Just another classic addition to the preppy portfolio! I have work again tomorrow at 10 then I will be enjoying some well deserved Cinco De Mayo celebrations!!
Anyway, let me make up for lost time. I am in love with Old Navy! I think that they have practical, functional and many classic essentials for a great price! I have fallen in love with so many of their summer products; the dresses and tops are especially adorable for the season! One particular shirt that I like, and bought I might add, is this one:

I think that the color is fun, summery and very in with the neon trend without being obnoxious. I also think the, perhaps tribal, pattern is unique and adds a flare. This top would go great with a pair of white bermuda shorts or even white pants for those chillier summer nights! This top comes in a variety of colors so if making a statement in this vibrant green isn’t for you, try the more neutral tan!
Sorry to keep this thrifty Thursday post short, but I’ve got work tomorrow and have to catch up on some sleep!!

Let me know what you think of the shirt!!

Wishful Wednesday from the Vines!

Hi again!

It's wishful Wednesday again! That means its time to take a look at something that isn't necessarily in a practical prepster's budget. Remember, looking and admiring is good!
In the spirit of my new job, I figured I would share something from Vineyard Vines on this wishful Wednesday! Even though I am one of the latest employees to the company, I will admit, Vineyard Vines is not cheap! However, their clothes are preppy, simple and timeless. While looking through the website, educating myself on more of their products I came across this:

Isn't it gorgeous!? This may just be one of the first purchases I make, thanks to my employee discount! This would be great for an evening affair or even a summer wedding! Another perk of Vineyard Vines is that if you order off of the website there is free shipping if you spend $150 or more. Considering the cost of many of the items you don't have to buy much to get free shipping!

What do you think of the dress?

Preppily yours,
The Practical Prepster
